Abstract
Metals are protected against oxidation at high temperatures by first applying a layer of nickel by hot rolling and then applying aluminium, for example by dipping or spraying. In an example, iron or steel is coated with a layer of nickel 0,008 inches in thickness by rolling at about 800 DEG C. Aluminium is then sprayed on to a thickness of 0,002 inches. The coated article is then heated to about 1000 DEG C. to form a nickel-aluminium alloy at the surface. The special heat-treatment may be omitted when the articles attain the alloying temperature in use.
