Abstract

314,314. Johnson, J. Y., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). March 19, 1928. Cementation.-In a process for the production of a non-corrosive and heat resisting surface on iron, the iron is embedded in an aluminiumchromium alloy and heated to a temperature of above 800‹ C. in the absence of oxygen. In an example the alloy used contains 15 per cent of aluminium and 85 per cent of chromium and the articles are heated in an atmosphere of pure hydrogen at a temperature of about 1000‹ C. The process may be carried out in an atmosphere of nitrogen or of reducing gases such as a mixture of nitrogen and hydrogen containing, for example about 5 per cent of hydrogen.
