Abstract

309,227. Johnson, J. Y., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). Oct. 3, 1927. Divided on 302,941, [Class 91, Oils &c.]. Hydrocarbons, cracking.-Liquid carbonaceous materials, e.g. tars, oils, &c. are cracked in the presence of organic substances containing the radical of a mineral acid in the molecule which reduce the surface tension of water, e.g. aromatic and aliphatic sulphonic acids, sulphonic acids of aromatic and hydroaromatic hydrocarbons sulphonated in the nucleus and containing at least one alkyl group in the nucleus. Specific examples, are benzene sulphonic acid, phenyl borate, the residue obtained by evaporation of sulphite cellulose waste liquor. Substances having a catalytic action, e.g. alkalies, magnesia, or zinc oxide may also be added.
