Abstract

309,042. Oranienburger Chemische Fabric Akt.-Ges. April 3, 1928, [Convention date]. Disinfectants; insecticides; emulsions, making. -The refining of tars, mineral and shale oils, and of other bituminous bodies, e.g. ozokerite, is effected by a halogen sulphuric acid. In an example, 100 lb. of sulphur-containing mineral oil or of brown-coal tar distillate is stirred with 25 lb. of commercial chloro-sulphonic acid at 30-35‹ C. The used acid is run off as a bottom layer, and the oil is washed with water, dried, and decolorized in known manner. The aqueous solution of the sulphonic acids formed from the naphthenic acids, phenols, unsaturated carbons mercaptans, thiophenes, and other impurities in the oil, may be neutralized by caustic soda or other alkali to produce strongly foaming liquids. These liquids may be bleached, and evaporated to yellow or brownish sulphonates to be used as washing, wetting, emulsifying, disinfecting, preserving, and fat-splitting agents, as insecticides, and for preparing boring and spinning oils.
