Abstract

Disinfectants are prepared by dissolving xylenol, halogenated xylenol or a mixture of xylenols and/or halogenated xylenols in an alcohol and mixing this solution with an aqueous solution of saponinum. In the case of raw xylenol, e.g. crude tar oil fractions corresponding to xylenol, the alcohol may be replaced by an acid such as diluted sulphuric acid. According to one example 1 : 3 : 5 xylenol and 5-hydroxy-1 : 3-dimethyl-2-chlorobenzene are dissolved in methyl alcohol and the solution is added to an aqueous solution of saponinum with stirring. The resulting solution may be diluted with water before use. Essential oils may be added to the mixtures. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the production of disinfectants by mixing a mixture or solution of xylenol, halogenated xylenol or of a mixture of xylenols and/or halogenated xylenols with an aqueous solution of saponinum. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
