Abstract

Benzol crudes or coke-oven light oils are freed from gum-forming constituents with a minimum loss of other unsaturateds by washing in a liquid state with limited amounts of sulphuric acid of about 60 DEG B<\>ae and at least 64 DEG B<\>ae. Agitation with 0 08-0,13 lb. of acid per gallon of oil at 20 DEG C. for \ba3/4\be-1 hour is suitable. Washings with caustic soda and water, and distillation may follow.
