Abstract

251,117. Ges. fur Warmetechnik, and Ufer, A. May 21, 1925. Mineral and tar oils, purifying.-Oils are purified by agitating with sulphuric acid at ordinary temperature and then, before removal of the acid, adding water or a solution of an electrolyte, preferably with continued agitation. After separation of the acid with or without the intermediate layer of resins, the oil is neutralized by caustic soda, milk of lime, ammonia, or other usual agent. The electrolyte solution preferred is the liquor from an ammonium sulphate saturator. Suitable proportions by volume are 5 per cent of acid, 8--10 per cent of water, and 10-20 per cent ammonium sulphate solution. The resinous layer may be drawn off separately and added to gas or other tar.
