Abstract

323,784. Wade, H., (Standard Oil Co.). July 10, 1928. Mineral oils, purifying.-Naphthenic acids are extracted from petroleum oils containing them, by treating the oil, without a preliminary sulphuric acid treatment, with a lower aliphatic alcohol, e.g. methyl, ethyl or isopropyl alcohol, which may be diluted with water. For example, a lubricating oil distillate of Bash point 500‹ F. obtained from oils of the type found in Louisiana, is agitated with 20 per cent of 50 per cent aqueous alcohol. The extraction process may be preceded by treatment with aqueous alkali.
