Abstract

In obtaining sinalbin mustard oil from white mustard seeds, the seeds, freed from fatty oils by extraction with benzol, petroleum ether, &c. or by pressure, are formed into a pasty mass with water and are left for some time at ordinary temperature for the hydrolysis of the glucoside. The mass is pressed and the residue is treated with ether to extract mustard oil. The thick fluid extract is diluted with water to produce a flocculent precipitate which, after drying, is also extracted with ether. The precipitation may be assisted by addition of acid or of sinapine bisulphate contained in the filtrate. In a modified process, ether is added to the pasty mass before submitting it to pressure.ALSO:In obtaining sinalbin mustard oil from white mustard seeds, the seeds, freed from fatty oils by extraction with benzol, petroleum ether &c. or by pressure, are formed into a pasty mass with water and are left for some time at ordinary temperature for the hydrolysis of the glucoside.
