308,250. Zumeta, J. M., and Yrastorza, A. M. March 20, 1928, [Convention date]. Fats and fatty oils, purifying.-The free acid in oils or fats is neutralized by agitating at ordinary temperatures a solution of the fat in carbon tetrachloride or trichlorethylene with an aqueous solution containing the exact amount of alkali required. The neutral oil solution is separated from the precipitated soap, and after washing with brine is distilled to remove the solvent. The soap residue is freed from the solvent by heating, and may be decomposed by mineral acid to yield the fatty acids.
