Abstract

In a process for producing glue and grease from bones by lixiviation with boiling water, a portion only, for example 20-50 p per cent, of the phosphate of lime contained in the bones is first extracted with acids such as hydrochloric, phosphoric or sulphuric acid. Preferably the bones are finely ground and the acid and water extractions carried out with stirring. The residue of glue in the bones may be extracted by steam under pressure.ALSO:In a process for producing glue from degreased bones by lixiviation with boiling water, a portion only, for example 20 per cent to 50 per cent, of the phosphate of lime contained in the bones is first extracted with acids such as hydrochloric, phosphoric or sulphuric acid. Preferably the bones are finely ground and the acid and water extractions carried out with stirring. The residue of glue in the bones may be extracted by steam under pressure.
