127,159. Jackson, W. J. Mellersh-, (Twitchell Process Co.). Aug. 12, 1918. Mineral oils, purifying.-After petroleum oils have been treated with sulphuric acid to remove unsaturated hydrocarbons and the acid sludge separated in the ordinary way, the oil is treated with sodium hydroxide or other alkali to neutralize dissolved sulpho-acids, and the salts thus formed are extracted by means of a dilute solution of a solvent soluble in water, such as alcohol or acetone. A fifty per cent. solution of methyl alcohol is mentioned as suitable.
