Da diese korrodierende Eigenschaften haben, müssen sie aus dem Benzin entfernt werden, was nach verschiedenen Verfahren geschieht. In der Regel werden hierbei die Mercaptane in Disulfide umgewandelt, @da diese nicht korrodierend wirken. Es wurde nun gefunden, daß sich die 1ler- captane schnell und restlos aus solch: eilt- haltenden Benzinen entfernen lassen, «-nti man diese mit geschmolzenem AIkalimetall- iicdroxvd, z. B. \atriumhydroxyd. wäscht. Das ausgebrauchte Hydroxyd kann in Wasser gelöst für andere Zwecke cerwenflet werden.
