307,905. Triggs, W. W., (Milliken Valve Corporation). Dec. 3, 1928. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, March 18, 1929]. R o t a r y cylindrical valves; leakage, preventing. - Leakage from a conical 'or cylindrical plug valve is prevented by maintaining a washer 24 in contact with shoulders 20, 22 on the large end of the plug 14 and casing 10 respectively by means of a gland 26 secured to the casing by bolts 28, a peripheral groove 18 on the plug below the shoulder 20 being maintained full of thick grease under pressure by supply from a reservoir 36 provided with a pressure screw 38 and a spring-pressed valve 42. The reservoir communicates with the groove through a passage 47, a chamber 30 below the plug, and grooves 32 in the face of the casing. In a modification, the washer 24 is omitted the gland itself making contact with the shoulders 20, 22. In the case of a cylindrical valve, lugs project from the bottom of the casing in the chamber 30 to support the plug.
