Abstract

176,285. Steele, G. A. July 7, 1921. Plug cocks ; protecting covers. - A plug cock is provided with means for lubricating and for adjusting the plug on its seating. The casing 4 is provided with a stuffing-box 5 having a gland 6 which bears on a shoulder 3 of the plug 1. The gland is prevented from rotating by grooves 7 engaging projections 8 on the stuffing-box. The gland is adjusted downwards by means of a screwed cap 9 which is provided with a depending screen 10<x> to prevent the entrance of dust into the stuffing-box. Grooves 11, 12 are provided in the gland to admit lubricant to the packing 13 surrounding the plug 1. A chamber 14 is provided in the lower part of the casing to contain a lubricated pad for lubricating the lower part of the plug. In a modification, Fig. 3, grooves 16 are formed in the casing around the plug, connecting the stuffing-box 5 with the chamber 14.
