Abstract

306,771. Fox, C. E. June 1, 1928. Purifying oils, used lubricants, &c.- Lubricating or other oil is cleansed by passing hot water, which may contain soda, acid or Fullers earth, downward through it. A tank 1, Fig. 1, containing a layer 8 of oil and a layer 10 of water is heated by an electric heater 5, which causes the water to rise through a cone 3 and tube 2, and to be distributed over the surface of the oil. In a modified form shown in Fig. 2, the water is caused by an electric heater 5, a steam coil 13, or a gas burner 14 to circulate upwards in the annular space between the vessel 1 and an inner vessel 2, and to pass downwards through a layer of oil contained in the inner vessel.
