Abstract
<PICT:0489377/III/1> Apparatus for cleansing used lubricating and edible oils comprises an airtight water container 6 surrounding an oil container 7 provided with a perforated float 9 adapted to carry a soluble purifying agent. The water container 6 is provided with a water inlet 40, a pipe 8 opening at the upper end 10 into the oil container 7, and a heating element 16. The oil container 7 is provided with an oil inlet 24, a drain 3 to which is attached a level indicator 5, a heating element 22, and an outlet 17 feeding an auxiliary container 18 heated by an element 20. In use, the oil is heated in the container 7, and hot water from the container 6 is forced by the rising pressure through the pipe 8 into the chamber 7 where it falls on and dissolves the agent on the float 9, the solution dropping through the oil and carrying with it the impurities; as the water accumulates in the container 7, the oil and float rise until the upward movement of the float is arrested by the outlet 10, whereupon the oil rises through the float and flows through the outlet 17 into the container 18 where it is heated to remove water.
