Abstract
<PICT:0405446/III/1> Oil supplied through a preheater 2 to a distributer 5 is heated to medium temperatures in an upper chamber 3 while flowing downwardly over heating tubes 4, and is then led through a tube 7 to a conical tank 8 in a lower vessel where it is raised to boiling temperature while flowing upwardly over more highly heated tubes 9. The oil overflows onto a perforated distributer 11 through which it falls onto heating coils 14. Residual oil is removed through a pipe 20 to a similar vessel 21 where it is further distilled or cracked while rising up an inner chamber 22 and flowing downwardly over coils 23 in the outer chamber 21. The vapours evolved in the upper and lower chambers are led off through a pipe 16 and receiver 17 to condensers.
