Abstract
337,982. Preston, Stallard, & Co., Ltd., and Malsbury, J. Nov. 8, 1929. Mineral oils, purifying; recovering waste lubricants.-In an apparatus of the kind described in Specification 306,771 for purifying used lubricating or other oil, in which water or other liquid is circulated through the oil by convection currents set up by a heater and circulator, the water is after the treatment cooled at a greater rate than the oil to accelerate the rate of separation of the two layers. A tank 1, the upper part of which is surrounded by lagging 5, and which contains a layer 8 of oil and a layer 7 of water, is heated by an electrical heater 6, which causes the water to rise through a cone 11, to be distributed over the surface of the oil and to pass downwardly therethrough. The lower unlagged part of the tank 1 containing the layer of water is cooled by exposure to the atmosphere, or to the action of fans. The lower part 3 of the tank 1 may be funnel-shaped to facilitate the removal of the separated impurities.
