Film evaporators.-Oil or other Liquids are freed from water by pasing them in film form down the inside of tubes a which pass through a steam or hot-water casing m. The film is obtained either by allowing the oil to flow over the tops of the tubes a or through slots c in the sides of the tubes or through annular passages formed between the tubes c and short narrower tubes held in the upper ends by projections. Some tubes i through which oil does not pass may also connect the upper and lower headers. The upper header is provided with a heating jacket wand is connected through the outlet x with a vacuum pump. The lower header carries an inclined partition b<1> which leads the oil onto a thermometer pocket c<1>. The lower ends of the tubes a are bevelled or formed with notches to prevent accumulation of the oil.
