Abstract

<PICT:0403178/III/1> A tank 3 for regenerating used oils by washing with water, contains used oil 4 and water 5, and is provided with one or more pipes 11 connected to the bottom of the tank and to a spray pipe 16. Water passes from the tank through a filter screen 12 to the pipe 11 in which it is heated by a gas or other burner 18. The heated water rises and passes through the spray orifices to the surface of the oil through which it descends. The purified oil is drawn off through a pipe 20 by passing water into the base of the tank through a pipe 9. Soda ash, sodium silicate, trisodium phosphate, or caustic soda may be added to the water.
