Abstract
535,422. Gas washers. AC-SPHINX SPARKING PLUG CO.. Ltd., BIRABEN, H. E., PAULLEY, R. V., and BROWNE, D. B. Oct. 3, 1939, Nos. 27066/39 and 7881/40. [Class 55 (ii)] A gas washer, especially for producer gas, consists of two superposed units separated by an air expansion chamber, one of the units being of the kind in which the gas is caused to impinge on the surface of a liquid and is then passed upwards through wire mesh wetted by the liquid. The other unit is a dry or wet scrubber. The washer is in two separable containers a, b locked together. on a sealed joint c by a pivoted bar d and nut f. Gas entering tangentially at h passes downwards through an annular space, and upwards through wetted coke i in a lower scrubber g. Water is supplied by a central pipe k dipping into a sump l. The gas then passes through an expansion chamber j on to the surface of oil above an annular ledge p and up through wire mesh moistened by the oil carried in the gas. The oil level may be lowered for high engine suction and vice versa, by connecting a tube inserted in the oil to the engine manifold, so that oil is sucked into the tube and the working level in the washer is lowered by increased engine suction
