Abstract

457,060. Soot &c. collectors for chimneys. HEGBOURNE, W. G., 1, Anerley Vale, Norwood, London. Aug. 23, 1935, No. 23731. [Class 25] A soot and dust collecting device for chimneys and the like comprises a separating chamber 2 which the gases enter in two streams, one through a tube 18 mounted in the outlet of the chimney 1 and the other through the annular passage between the tube and the chimney, a primary baffle 16 in the lower part of the chamber above the annular passage and a second baffle 6 at the top of the chamber directly above the opening of the tube, the bottom of the chamber being sloping and having an ori fice leading to a collecting container 15. The top anc sides of the chamber are provided with outlet ports 5 and 7 respectively. Within the chamber may be mounted an inner shell 8 having ports 10 in its side walls and a skirt extending below the level of the baffle 16 which comprises an annular conical member carried by the top of the tube 18. The chamber may be in two parts connected by a bayonet type joint 11. In a modification, the primary baffle is supported on a helical strip depending into the chimney.
