Abstract

<PICT:0342400/III/1> Used lubricating and other oils are cleansed by spraying a cleansing liquid on to the surface of a substantially stationary body of the oil and allowing it to fall through. For example, cleansing liquid B surrounding an electric heater G is raised continuously by a pump E through a pipe D to the perforations P above a body of oil A. After sufficient treatment the oil is withdrawn through a tap K. The cleansing liquid may be filtered during circulation. Cleansing liquids specified are water, and a suspension of 4 oz. of talc in a solution of 4 oz. of caustic soda and 4 oz. of sodium silicate in 8 oz. of water. Specification 306,771, [Class 91, Oils &c.], is referred to.
