Abstract

305,764. Carpenter, C., and South Metropolitan Gas Co. Dec. 16, 1927. Producers.-In the operation of gas producers or the like the waste of fuel during clinkering is minimized by reducing the temperature of the fuel-bed by means of a current of gas which is either inert or acts endothermically with the fuel. This gas may be substituted for the air blast or supplied to the space above the fuel. In the producer shown, when the clinkering doors are opened the gas or vapour is introduced through pipes E, E<1> leading to below the grates B. The draught may, however, be diminished by admitting cold and preferably inert gas or vapour through an inlet to the space F above the fuelbed.
