Producers. - A portable gasproducer is so constructed that its working gas-outlet can be temporarily rendered inoperative as a gas-supply passage, another outlet being provided at a higher level and opened and closed by a door. The producer, which is enclosed in a metal casing a lined with fire-brick and mounted on wheels d<2>, has a working gas-outlet l. A by-path m is constructed, the outlet m<2> of which is opened and closed by a door m<3>, this by-path being separated from the feed-chamber k by a depending wall n. When the door m<3> is opened, the gases will escape through it instead of through the usual outlet l, which condition is necessary for the connecting up and disconnecting from the furnace to be supplied with gas. Steam is generated by supplying water to drip-plates o, or the usual steam-supply pipe i may be used.
