Working-fluid supply.-In a gas turbine, carburetted air is forced by a fan 12 through a channel formed by a volute plate 23, and through a perforated plate. 24 into a combustion chamber 27<b> from which the products pass over guide plates 28 to the blades 29 of a turbine 13. The turbine drives an electric generator 16, and its shaft 17 is fitted with a pulley. The fan 12 is separately driven by an electric motor 14. The generator and motor are connected to a storage battery by automatic switch-gear which causes the generator to act as a motor on starting. The generator may be connected directly to the motor 14 when the output is low, and the speed of the motor may be controlled. Combustion is started by a sparking plug 26 which is then cut out automatically. The petrol or other fuel, the supply of which may be controlled in accordance with the speed of the fan, is fed by a pipe 21 to absorbent material 20 surrounding perforated airintake pipes 19<a>. The fuel may be preheated electrically, or the mixture may be heated.
