V -slot and like blade sharpeners.-A knife sharpener consists of two or more steels or sharpening- members a pivoted at b in a frame c so as to cross, forming a sharpening angle at d, the knife h being placed in the angle and drawn with pressure across the members a, and being guided during descent of the sharpening angle d by slots m; the angle d remains substantially constant during sharpening. The members are returned to their initial position, after removal of the knife, by a spring or springs j. In a modification, the sharpening-members are each mounted on a spring; the slots m may be formed in a separate cover fitted to the frame c.
