Abstract

311,120. Cook, P. May 29, 1928. Stropping - apparatus. -A safety razor frame 6 carries an abrasive roller 20 and a pivoted blade holder 14 the roller 20 and the holder 14 being geared together so that when the guard 7 is out of engagement, as shown dotted in Fig. 2, and the roller 20 is rolled over a surface, opposite sides of the cutting edge are sharpened alternately. The roller 20 is secured frictionally to its spindle 21 to cause reversal of the blade at the end of each sharpening stroke. During each stroke the roller revolves on its spindle. A honing roller 3, secured by a nut '2, forms the razor handle, the rollers 3, 20, being interchangeable. In a modified form of abrasive roller the spindle is in two parts 25, 26, Fig. 7, pressed apart by a spring, one end of the spindle being conical. The roller has a portion of leather or other abrasive material of spiral formation. If the posts 18 are removed from the holder 14 the device may be used for sharpening blades of varying types.
