Abstract
411,771. Sharpening razor blades. EDWARDS, E. E., and SMITH, A. H., 1, Cullum Street, London. Dec. 20, 1933, No. 35854. [Class 60.] In a razor blade sharpener wherein the blade edge lies between two contacting sharpening rollers the blade holder has applied thereto a turning movement so as to press the blade alternately against each of the rollers. The sharpener, as constructed for single-edged blades, comprises a casing 12 in which are mounted two rollers 13, 14 driven by a handle and gearing, and in the casing is pivoted a blade-holder 18 having a slot 19 to receive the blade. Secured to the holder is a block 20 carrying two resilient parallel wires 22, 23 between the free ends of which is a grooved pulley 27 carried eccentrically of the roller 14 by a block 25 mounted upon the spindle of the roller. In operation, the rollers are rotated by the handle, and movement of the pulley causes the blade to be pressed resiliently against the rollers alternately. In a modification, intended for double-edged blades, four rollers are provided, geared together, the blade being carried by a holder member slidable endways over a member pivotally mounted between the rollers and moved to press the blade against the rollers by a resilient device as described above.
