303,337. Fairweather, W., (Singer Manufacturing Co.). July 10, 1928. Driving.-A portable sewing machine with an electric motor is provided with a rheostat controller unit of the kind described in 301,237 and operated by a knee lever. The rheostat 12 is mounted obliquely on the side wall 3 of the machine cabinet, and its pull rod 18 is connected to an arm 25 of a bell crank lever pivoted at 24. The other arm 28 of the bell crank lever enters a recess 29 in a lever 30 pivoted at 31 and operated by the knee level 33 pivoted thereto at 34. The knee lever has an adjustably extending piece 35, and can be turned to a storing position when not in use as shown by the dotted lines in Fig. 2.
