A sewing-machine A, adapted to be lowered into a cabinet D when not in use, has a presser foot L which is raised when required by means of a knee-operated lever G which is connected to a lever K associated with the presser foot by means of a flexible cable J disposed in a flexible outer casing O having its ends suitably anchored and of sufficient length to permit of the sewing machine being raised into its working position or lowered therefrom. As shown, a second lever M and linkage N is interposed between the cable and the lever K.
