Class 112 [Also in Group XXIV] A sewing machine provided with a shaft having operative con nections with stitch ing mechanism has a counterbalance secur ed to the shaft com prising two comple mentary parts each part including a portion of a hub which engages the shaft whereby the counterbalance may be secured to or removed from the shaft by separating the parts. The counterweight 62 which is releasably secured to the shaft 7 comprises two equal parts 67, 68 secured together by screws 69. Each part comprises a part of the hub 63, arm 65 and counterweight 66. The depth of the portion of the aperture in each part is less than half the diameter of the shaft so that when the screws are tightened, the two parts initially contact at the line 70 and then pivot about this line.
