Abstract

642,875. Sewing-machine cabinets. FAIRWEATHER, W. C. (Singer Manufacturing Co.). Oct. 4, 1948, No. 25745. [Classes 52 (i) and 52 (iii)] The top of a sewing-machine cabinet has an aperture accommodating a rectangular cradle C to receive the base of a portable sewing-machine M. When the machine is to be used on the cabinet one end of the base is fitted on pins 11 b at one end of the cradle and the opposite end slides down a cam surface 20 on the cradle to urge the base towards the pins, a spring latch 24 securing the base when fully lowered. The cradle is carried on rear hinges 15 and supported at the front by abutments on a hinged flap 5 forming part of the cabinet top. Displacement of the flap allows the cradle and machine to be lowered into the cabinet for storage.
