Abstract
564,148. Tables for sewing-machines. FAIRWEATHER, W. C. (Singer Manufacturing Co.). April 23, 1943, No. 6560. [Class 52 (iii)] The sliding top 18 of a table having a well 14 to receive a sewing machine is supported in the open position by a swinging arm 26 urged by a spring 30 into the supporting position and engaged by the end of the sliding top to return it into the plane of one leg 10 of the table as the top is closed. The sliding top has marginal walls 19, 20 and is fitted with channel guide members 21 on its inner corners to engage the edge of the fixed part 13 of the table top; and with angle pieces 22 on its outer corners. A stop screw 23 on the part 13 is engaged by one angle piece 22 to prevent complete withdrawal of the sliding top. The pivot 27 of the supporting arm engages a hole in a cut-away part of the leg occupied by the arm when closed, and also a hole in a plate secured to the underside of the fixed top. A block 33 carried by the sliding top engages the end 29 of the supporting arm to move the arm against its spring in closing the top.
