Abstract
302,275. Gomand, G. Dec. 13. 1927, [Convention date]. Tapered plug lift valves.-In a balanced lift plug sluice valve comprising a conical-shaped valve member E, transverse balance in respect of fluid pressures from the inlet and outlet passages Q, T is provided for by arranging portions of the surface of the valve member, such as e, f, g to be exposed to fluid pressure from the passage Q, and other portions U, V, W of its surface to pressure from the passage T. Fluid has access to the surfaces f, g from the passage Q through passages F, G round the casing, and pockets s, t; and to the surfaces V, W from the passage T through a conduit passage Z formed on the underside of the valve member. This conduit passage Z aligns with the flow passages Q, T when the valve is lifted open. Vertical balance in the closed position of the valve is arranged for by fluid pressure on the conical closure surfaces of the valve member, and in the open position by the difference in upper and lower areas due to the actuating spindle K on the upper side. The valve is actuated by a screwed spindle K engaging an enclosed nut 0, rotary non-reciprocating movement of the spindle being obtained by means of small collar P enclosed, as shown. Specification 182,791 is referred to.
