Abstract
301,661. Smith Meters, Ltd., and Smith, E. W. Jan. 5, 1928. Coin action, thrust. - Prepayment mechanism for gas and electricity meters of the kind wherein a coin table or coinsupporting lever, pivoted eccentrically with respect to the operating handle but rotatable with it, couples the handle to a quantity wheel on the insertion of a coin, is provided with a non-return device connected to the coin table so that the movement of the table about its pivot due to the insertion of a coin is utilized to render the non- return device operative as such while the coin is on the table. The invention is described as applied to the coin table mechanisms described in Specifications 219,252 and 233,539. The housing 1 of the coin mechanism is provided with studs a and a pawl is hinged tb an extension c of the coin table 7, being held against the extension by a spring i. The spring i is anchored to a finger h of the pawl and to a disc 4 rotated by the handle. When a coin is inserted to cause a tooth 10 on the table to engage a, quantity wheel, the pawl b is brought into the path of the studs a and prevents backward rotation of thehandle and quantity wheel.
