[Class 139.] In an improvement on the parent invention the conical projection i on the spindle e is adapted to engage with an abutment j rotatably mounted on the lever a but connected thereto through a spring k so that when the spindle is depressed to set the hands the projection i first engages the face l to rock lever a against the bias of spring m and on further depression slips past the face l, Fig. 2, whereupon the spring m rocks the lever a back to its normal position, the pawl b thereon imparting the starting impulse to the ratchet wheel d. During the return movement of the spindle the abutment j rotates about the lever a stressing the spring k, the lever remaining at rest. In a modification, a spring pawl replaces the projection i and during depression of the spindle first engages an abutment fixed to the lever a to rock the latter as above, and then allows the lever to give the motor starting impulse, the pawl slipping idly over the abutment on return of the spindle. In another modification the abutment j, Fig. 4, is resiliently connected through a spring to the arm a forming a bellcrank lever. On depression of the spindle e the projection i idly rocks the abutment j, stressing the spring k, the arm a being both rocked to operative position and released to give the starting impulse during the return motion of spindle e.
