Abstract
299,567. Vervoort, B. Sept. 6, 1927. Variable-speed gearing employs claw clutches allowing lost motion before the drive picks up. The gearing is of the type comprising aligned driving and driven shafts 9, 11, Fig. 1, a parallel countershaft 10, and double clutches slidable on the driven shaft, as described in Specification 15955/09. Clutch gears 5 - - 8 are held in - spaced relation by feathers 17 on which slide clutch sleeves 12, 13, which have clutch dogs 15, singly or in pairs. The coacting member in the loose gear may be, as shown in Fig. 2, an annular groove 14 with stops 16 bolted therein. Instead of such stops, an abutment 18, Fig. 6, integral with the wheel may be left. The clutches are operated by the sliding and pivotal movements of a lever.
