To all 'whom t may concern.:
Be it known that I, DAvrD H. GRUVER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Augusta, in the county of Butler and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Power Take-Offs, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in power take-offs from propeller-shafts of all descriptions, and it consists in a combination of mechanical elements which will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the `accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view showing all of the parts assembled, except the casing which is omitted;

Figure T is a view looking into the sliding gear;
Figure 8 is a view of the sprocket-wheel;

F.y represents a hub keyed to the driveshaft after removing one-half of the usual universal joint, it being` held the same as the half of the universal joint is ordinarily7 held.
E, represents an intermediate shaft, the
bore of which is riifled and fitted to the corresponding ritlled outer' surface of the hub, as indicated by Figures 4 and 6. The end 1 of the intermediate shaft E is square as shown in Figure The clutch member C is slidably mounted on this square end l of the intermediate shaft E, and the sprocket D is mounted on the cylindrical end 6 of the intermediate shaft E. A driven-Shaft D has tapered end Q, at one end, where one-half of the universal joint (not shown) goes on, and the other end of this driven-shaft B has a spur gear 3. The sliding-clutch member C is confined between the driven shaft B and the sprocket D, and is provided with a female section at the left Specification of Letters Patent.

and a male section at the right, the female section having notches to receive the teeth on the spur-gear 3 when moved to the left, whereby to transmit motion to the driven shaft B, and the male section at the right is provided to engage the female section on the left of the sprocket D when the clutch member C is slid to the right, whereby to transmit the power of the shaft E from driven shaft B to sprocket D.
This sliding clutch member C is shifted to the right or left by a lever G which has a spanner end 4 which enters the circumferential groove 5 in said clutch member, and the lever in turn is pivoted to the transmission casing A, the moving part being mounted in roller-bearings not shown to prevent friction.
I claim:
l. In a power take-0E from driving shafts, the combination with a hub adapted to be driven by such shaft, a driven shaft in alignment therewith, an intermediate shaft one end of which is hollowed and surrounds and has a driving connection with said hub, the other end of which intermediate shaft being formed of an angular spindle, transmission means loosely mounted for rotation on the hollow end of the intermediate shaft, and a clutch member mounted on the angular spindle of the intermedia-te sha-ft, and driven thereby, but slidable thereon to engage and drive either said driven shaft or said transmission means.
2. The combination with a toothed hub adapted to be keyed to a drive-shaft, an intermediate shaft having a hollow cylindrical end adapted to overlie and be keyedito said hub and provided with an angular end, a sprocket-wheel loosely mounted on the cylindrical end and a sliding clutch member slidably mounted on the angular end of said intermediate shaft, of a driven shaft having a spur-gear on one end, the slidingclutch member having notches to correspond with said spur-teeth, and means for shifting the sliding gear into engagement with the spur gear of the driven shaft, or into engagement with the sprocket wheel whereby to transmit motion to one or the other.
