Abstract

298,905. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Nerad, A. J.). Oct. 14, 1927, [Convention date]. Vapour engines. - A mercury vapour generator comprises a number of boiler tube units 2 comprising an outer tube 3 containing a heattransferring fluid such as lead, and inner tubes 4 of small diameter through which the mercury circulates in parallel. The units 2 are arranged as a furnace wall screen. The tubes 4 are secured at the top and bottom to plates 5, 8 which define the spaces for the heating-lead and the mercury. The space 7 is connected to a supply conduit 14, and the vapour space 10 to a vapour drum 16 by a conduit 15 which enters the drum in front of a curved baffle plate 19 and below the level of mercury contained therein. Mercury vapour is drawn off at the conduit 17. The drum 16 and conduit 14 are connected bv a pipe 18. The upper ends of the tubes are bent at an angle to allow differential expansion without excessive stress.
