Abstract

297,434. Marconi's Wireless Telegraph Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Hansell, C. W.). Sept. 21, 1927, [Convention date]. Phase, changing. - A coupling arrangement for obtaining a desired d impedance ratio and a desired phase shift in highfrequency line circuits, applicable for energizing aerial arrays in desired phase relation, comprises two or more cascade-connected impedance-changing devices, the product of the impedance ratios being equal to the desired ratio, and the algebraic sum of the phase shifts being equal to the desired phase shift. As shown in Fig. 3, the coupling comprises two sections 6, 8 and 8, 18 connected between an input line 6 and an output line 18. The first section, of known form per se, comprises series coils 2 and a shunt condenser 4, and the second section also of known form comprises series condensers 14 and a shunt inductance coil 12. The phase shift produced by the combination is the algebraic sum of the individual phase shifts, and as the two sections shown produce phase shifts of opposite sign, the combination may be designed to produce zero phase shift. The impedance ratio of the combination is the product of those of the sections. The Specification includes a. chart to assist in the design of a coupling arrangement for producing a given overall impedance ratio and phase shift.
