Abstract

296.988. Poetzsch W. G., (Assignee of Lauterbach, F.). Sept. 10, 1927, [Convention date]. Chromium, depositing.- The electrolyte consists of chromic acid to which is added 1-4 gms. per litre of a salt of aluminium or magnesium or of magnesium oxide; the total free and combined sulphuric acid must not exceed 1.5 per cent of the chromic anhydride present, and should preferably be about 0.6-0.7 per cent. The current density must be between 3 and 10 amps per sq. dcm. The aluminium or magnesium is not deposited. In an example, the bath contains per litre 450 gms. of chromic acid, 5 gms. of chromium sulphate of an equivalent amount of sulphuric acid and 3.5 gms. of magnesium oxide or carbonate or 7 gms. of aluminium carbonate. Specification 266,045 is referred to.
