Abstract

295,970. Elverson, A. J. H. May 21, 1927. Magnetos, driving. - A coupling for driving a magneto or other rotary ignition device in an internal combustion engine comprises an Internal member 2, Fig. 1, on the driving shaft 1, a split external gripping member 6<a> on the magneto spindle and a nut 8 arranged to draw the members together and tighten the external one on the internal one. In the form shown, the inner member is sharply tapered to receive the outer member and is recessed at 3 to receive the boss of the outer member and the nut which secures it on the magneto shaft. The threads of the nut 8 are arranged to tighten when the drive is applied. In an alternative form, Fig. 3, the surfaces of the coupling members 2, 6<a> are parallel instead of tapered and the drive is conveyed by a rubber or like facing 9 on the inner member which expands radially when compressed by the action of the nut.
