Resistance furnaces.-In a furnace having wire or strip resistances 12 arranged on the walls, and if desired on the roof, base and door, similar additional heating elements 18 are arranged between the several articles or charges 16 to be annealed. In a furnace having a removable hearth plate 19, Fig. 2, the additional elements are arranged on frames which rest on the hearth. Some of the additional elements may be fixed to the furnace body. An iron cooling hood may rest on the frames carrying the additional elements.
