Abstract

Blast apparatus; air supply, regulating.-An air injector for furnaces comprises a steam nozzle 13, the outlet orifice 15 of which is controlled by a valve 14, and an outer nozzle, 10 comprising a conical portion provided with apertures 12 through which air is induced by the steam. The centres, of the apertures 12 lie, in the same plane as the end of the nozzle 13. Shoulders 17 on the nozzle 13 are provided with ducts 18 through which air passes from the aperture 11 to mix with the steam in the chamber 10<a>. The mixture of steam and air enters the furnace. through the venturi tube 9. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a), the air injector may be disposed above or below a furnace grate. Where the injectors are disposed above and below the grate the steam supply to the injectors is controlled by opening and closing the furnace door. By opening the door steam is supplied to the injectors above the grate and closed to those below, and by closing the door the steam supply to the injectors above the grate is closed and is opened to those below the grate. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
