Abstract

111,412. Gill, H. A., (Fowdered Coal Engineering & Equipment Co.). March 26, 1917. Fuel, feeding.-Powdered fuel and air are mixed before delivery to 'burners &c. in apparatus consisting of a pair of adjacent chambers separated by a perforated wall and supplied respectively with the fuel and air. Preferably the two chambers are concentric as shown, air being supplied to the outer by the pipe 13 and fuel to the inner by the pipe or duct 19, and the air passing in jets through the perforated wall of the inner chamber to mix with the fuel passing through it. The supply of fuel may be assisted by an induction nozzle 21 delivering air into the fuel duct near its discharge end. The perforations may be of different areas or cross sections, those towards the rear being larger, and they may be formed as shown with punched-in lips or louvers 17. The mixing and air chambers may also be connected by a supplemental air opening controlled by a valve 24. The mixed fuel and air may be de. livered by a nozzle or burner provided with adjustable hinged gates or valves 29.
