Actuating-mechanism; combustion of independent valves.-The control valves 15 of a number of burners 11, arranged around a pilot-jet 18, are each connected by a lever 35 and a link 36 with a lever 29 carrying a spring-pressed pawl 30 engaging a ratchet wheel 27 fixed upon an extension 23 of a valve 21 controlling the pilot-jet 18 so that, on opening one or more of the valves 15, the pilot flames are extended to ignite the corresponding burner or burners. The levers 29 are mounted rotatably on bearings formed integral with the ratchet wheels 27. A bar 24 carrying rollers 25 is rigidly secured to the extension 23, the rollers 25 normally engaging a spring-pressed plate 40 slidable on rods 39 carried by a fixed plate 38. Immediately prior to a valve 15 being moved to the fully open position, the bar 24 has moved into a position at right angles to the plate 40, the final movement of the valve resulting in the continued movement of bar under the action of the plate 40 to the normal position, the pilot flames being thereby reduced. The valve 15 may then be operated to reduce the burner flame without affecting the pilot-jet.
