Supports attached to cycles. - Supports of the telescopic type, more particularly for motor bicycles, comprise an outer tube 1 rigidly attached to the cycle frame or constituted by one of the tubes of the frame, and an inner slidable tube 2 adapted to be extended by the rider's foot, as by means of a toe plate 6, against the action of an internal tension spring 7, Fig. 5, the tube 2 being held in any one of a number of extended positions by a spring-controlled pawl 4 on the outer tube adapted to engage a rack on the inner tube and provided with a foot-operated release arm 5, whereby the pawl can be disengaged, allowing the spring 7 to retract the tube 2. The spring 7 is attached to end caps 8, 9 on the tubes 1, 2. The rack on the tube 2 is formed by a number of spaced holes in the base of a longitudinal groove 12, into which project one or more inclined teeth on the pawl 4, the pawl being adapted also to engage a slot in the lower end of the tube 2 to hold the latter in the closed position. The pawl 4 is pivoted between the cheeks of a lateral extension 23a on a collar 23 fixed to the tube 1. In the construction shown, the tube 1 is adjustably fixed to the seat stay 15 by a pivotally-adjustable clip 22, and to the chain stay 15a by a strut formed of two plates 17 comprising jaws 18 gripping the chain stay, and eyes. or sockets 19 gripping a split ball 20, which is adjustable along the tube 1, the parts being clamped in adjusted position by bolts 21.
