[Class 136 (i)] A stand of the type adapted to support a bicycle by automatically gripping the sides of one of the wheels comprises two pivotally - connected side members or wheelgripping parts, which carry elongated gripping jaws or bars adapted to grip the sides of wheels of different diameters, and are each provided below the pivot with an arm or abutment adapted to be engaged and depressed or spread apart by the lower part of the cycle wheel so as to cause the gripping jaws or bars to move towards one another and engage the opposite sides of a wheel of any width with a lateral clamping action. The side frames each comprise a pair of end leg members 1 connected together by a lower longitudinal bar 2 and an upper gripping bar or jaw member 3. The two frames are pivotally connected together at each end of the stand by a link 5, pivoted at the ends 6. At about the middle of the longitudinal bar 2 of each frame is secured an operating arm 7, which may be made from strip metal in the form of loop-like brackets shaped as shown, the two brackets (or more than two if desired) overlapping one another in parallel planes, so as to form a V-shaped wheel-receiving cradle 9. When the wheel is inserted, the arms 7 are depressed and spread apart, the V-shaped space 9 becoming more acute, and the jaws 3 are forced inwards to grip the sides of the wheel.
